Proofreading: Services include checking for punctuation, word usage, grammar, spelling, typographical errors, and verifying of Scripture verses and versions.

Editing, basic: Services include proofreading plus checking for inconsistencies in point of view and tense, redundancies, and sentence clarity and structure.

Editing, substantive: Services include all of the above plus correcting structural errors, weak sentence style, lack of focus, and transitions, with suggestions for rewriting of text where needed, resulting in logical and smooth text flow.

Formatting: This service puts your manuscript into the format required by your publisher and includes: correct formatting of Scripture verses with Bible versions listed appropriately within the text and on the copyright page.

Also included in formatting: checking for hard carriage returns, changing all font sizes and styles according to publisher specifications, disabling the automatic Word functions if necessary, checking tabs, columns, charts, and more, per your publisher's specific requirements.

I would also format the front pages (copyright page with Scripture permission paragraphs, acknowledgment, dedication, introduction, and table of contents pages) and back cover text according to the publisher standards.

Prices are commensurate with the level of work requested and agreed upon. For example, proofreading may range from $2.00 to $4.00 per page, based on the standard 250-word, double-spaced page.
